Karen Patriquin is passionate about her work as an individual and relationship therapist as well as an experienced facilitator of workshops and retreats. Karen’s qualifications include an Honors BA in Psychology from McMaster University and a Diploma in Psychotherapy and Psychospiritual Facilitation from the Transformational Arts College in Toronto. She is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario as well as a clinical member of the Ontario Society of Psychotherapists. Karen is also a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, a Master Practitioner of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and practices Level 2 Reiki.
With almost 30 years experience in the field of health care, Karen guides her clients with gentle confidence and respect. Karen has worked as a RN for 12 years in Psychiatric, Critical Care and Community Care settings. She has repeatedly witnessed the power of the mind in healing and understands the importance of a holistic (mental/physical/emotional/spiritual) approach.
Her latest academic pursuits include completing a Three Year Professional Enrichment Program with the Center for Intentional Living in New York. Studies included childhood development and attachment styles as they are rooted in infancy and early childhood, which colour our intimate relationships. The world of trauma from subtle, cumulative strain trauma to sudden shock trauma was explored as it impacts the rhythm of self and agency in our lives. Studies also included the dynamics of family systems, the individuation process, life transitions and the conscious practice of repair.
Some of Karen’s accomplishments include making repeated appearances on Rogers Daytime TV as well as the Woman to Woman Show. Additionally she has also been a repeated guest of Carole Matthews on her Radio Show, ‘The Messenger Files’, and has facilitated a successful series of workshops in collaboration with Women with Vision on ‘The Secret’. Karen has been offering her own workshops and retreats over the years and finds this work both powerful and rewarding.
Karen is committed to empowering individuals by offering a unique blend of techniques and exercises designed to raise consciousness. Core pain and childhood issues can create repeated frustrating patterns in your life and relationships. Karen is gifted in getting to the root of these patterns. She provides an atmosphere which promotes safe expression and release of repressed, blocked or disguised pain and can compassionately guide you towards overcoming perceived obstacles or limitations to find peace in the knowledge of your True self.
Karen also works with couples to create a ‘conscious relationship’. Following the Imago theory of relationships, contact and connection are restored through improved communication. Perceived blocks and impasses can be overcome by identifying and addressing the underlying unmet needs. Karen also assists couples to reach deeper emotional healing and provides opportunities to re-ignite the caring, enjoyment and passion of mature love.
Karen was born in the small town of Kirtland, Ohio as the eighth of nine children. Just before her fifth birthday her family was transferred to Mississauga, Ontario where she was raised. Karen fondly remembers there was never a dull moment as part of a large family and how she has always been intrigued with the mind and exploring different ways of perceiving things. Karen fell deeply in love with her husband Anthony at McMaster University. Together they built their first home in the beautiful rolling hills of Mulmur. Today, Karen and Anthony live on Lake Eugenia and have raised two beautiful daughters.
